In Ireland, contrary to some opinions, there are a large number of incentives and supports to own and use an electric vehicle (Full Electric and Plug-In Hybrid).

Some of the confusion around the incentives available arises as the incentivisation comes through different Government departments, namely;

  1. Department of Communications, Climate Action and Environment (D/CCAE)
  2. Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI)
  3. Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport (DTTAS)
  4. National Transport Authority

Hence; there is no singular department responsible or clearly indicated.

What follows, as at January 1st 2019, is the complete collation of the Electric Car incentives and supports to purchase and use an Electric Vehicle in Ireland. These Incentive packages are projected to deliver 1,200 to 1,500 new registrations of Electric Vehicle registrations in 2018.
